So what do I use to aid in the relief of my arthritic pain? I am taking prescribed medication for pain but I find that after a while they are not as effective. Also, thy come with their own set of problems, for example, certain ones may cause GI issues like severe heart burn. So I have been using supplements as well as other interventions.
Let’s talk about the other interventions first. I apply ice for about fifteen minutes to the site where I am having the pain. Sometimes I ice it then I apply heat for about fifteen minutes (there are several heating pads in the store); I recommend that you make sure that you ask your medical doctor about this before you do it. It is important to exercise though truthfully I am still working on that. You see, I do it but I need to be more consistent. I have a recumbent bike which my doctor told me that it is safe to use as it does not put pressure on the suffering joints. The joints must move or you will end up causing immobility and that decreases your quality of life. Even if you don’t have a recumbent bike ( bikes that allow you to sit in a laid back position, supporting your back and distributing your body weight more evenly), you can sit and do exercises and some you may do lying down; just do bending and stretching of those joints and when you are through, apply ice.
I would like to tell you about the supplements that I take. Please do not take anything before discussing them with your medical doctor, especially if you take medications for anything as there might be some contraindications (if you mix certain medications or even herbs, it could cause further serious health problems). I take Omega-3 supplements and I like a mixture of the flaxseed and the fish oil as the combination provides needed stuff that is missing for each one; for example, flaxseed provides ALA (alpha-linolenic acid is a fatty acid found only in plants and one of the benefits is its anti-inflammatory effects) while fish oil provides EPA and DHA (fatty acids that you will get from the fish oil and these also have several benefits including anti-inflammatory effects). While they are flaxseed and fish oil are both sources of fatty acids, there are some benefits that you may get from the flaxseed that you may not get from the fish oil, and vice versa. In addition to omega-3, I take Vitamin
